Third Sunday of Easter Homily

I love this Gospel, as it has a revelation that we sometimes miss!

Imagine you are a disciple in the room on Easter

Doors are locked - you are troubled.

Suddenly Jesus is standing in your midst.

“Peace be with you.” - are you seeing a Ghost.  It looks like Jesus, but is it?

He asks, “Why are you troubled? Why are there questions in your hearts?

Touch me and Look at my hands and my feet, - it is I myself.   I have flesh and bones.

So What Just Happened?

Jesus reveals that He is alive and is Risen.

When Jesus first appeared to Mary Magdalene on Easter Sunday, she did not recognize Him. 

When He appeared to the two disciples on the road to Emmaus, they did not recognize Him either.  He was different. 

Jesus had broken free of the constraints of the human body, and there was a unique presence in Him they had never seen before.

He has a new body now - a Glorified Body - no longer bound by Space or Time like our human body.

He can go anywhere, appear anywhere, and in any form He wishes.

He promises us the same as we pray the last line of the Creed,

I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come.

My Dear Friends, you do not have to imagine you were there.  Every time we hear the Word of God or whenever we attend Holy Mass, we have an encounter with Jesus.

Have you ever seen or touched a Glorified Body?

The risen Jesus enjoys the freedom of appearing as He wishes: in the guise of a gardener, in the Eucharist or other forms, precisely to awaken our faith.

God asks us to believe without seeing or complete understanding. 

That’s what faith is.  God is saying,

‘will you trust me on this?’

In the Eucharist - He is standing here Present in His Glorified Body, which contains His Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity. 

A body which still contains all the wounds of His Crucifixion, as He showed the disciples on Easter.

Jesus chooses to remain veiled in the appearance of the Bread and Wine that we receive.

Inviting us: to ponder His word, to come to Him, to touch Him, to believe in Him and to put all our trust in Him,

even though we can only see Him through the eyes of our faith.

May the Lord Jesus put His hands on our eyes, so we can begin to look not at what is seen but at what is not seen.

As we share in communion with Jesus and each other, we are sent to share His message with the entire world.

Jesus needs us to be His eyes, ears, hands, and feet to bear witness to His Love, Mercy and Forgiveness.

By our lives, we testify that the power of the risen Jesus has touched and transformed us.

Let our daily lives be the means of experiencing and sharing the risen Lord with others.

I leave with two thoughts:

1. When you pray, you can ask God to Tweak things, or you can ask God to Transform things.
   Pray a prayer of Transformation, Pray that God Transforms you.
   God always answers that Prayer.
   He may not answer our Tweaking Prayer, but He will always answer our prayer of Transformation.
2. If you just lived this one Gospel 100% how much would your life change?  Just this one Gospel!
