There has been a
confirmed case of Pertussis (whooping cough) at Saint Patrick School. Since Thursday, March 26, the City of York,
Bureau of Health has seen an increase in the number of pertussis cases,
Pertussis is an infection that affects the airways and is easily spread from
person to person by coughing or sneezing.
Its severe cough can last for weeks or months, sometimes leading to
coughing fits and/or vomiting. Anyone
can get pertussis, but it can be very dangerous for infants and people with
weakened immune systems. Family members
with pertussis, especially mothers, can spread pertussis to newborns.
Please know all
precautions are being undertaken and the school is being thoroughly cleaned and
disinfected. A notice has been sent home
to parents with more detailed information.
Religious Education parents if your child has a cough or a low immune system,
please keep them home from Religious Education this weekend.
Thank you everyone
for your assistance.
