Homily for the Third
Sunday of Advent
“Rejoice
always. Pray without ceasing. In all
circumstances give thanks, for this is the will of God for you in Christ
Jesus.” On this third Sunday of Advent
we are reminded in Saint Paul’s letter to the people of Thessalonica that we
are called to rejoice. This week we
rejoice because the time is drawing near to celebrate the Lord’s birth.
After the
first sentence we are then encouraged to pray without ceasing and to give
thanks. There are plenty of reasons to
give thanks! Our Lord has given us an
opportunity to once again renew our hearts, minds, and souls allowing us to
focus on Him. Pray! Reflect!
Repent! The time is now brothers
and sisters to turn back to the Lord.
Don’t wait another moment. Do not
quench the Spirit!!! Brothers and
sisters as the time draws closer may we pray for the grace to open our hearts
to the Lord.
“My soul
rejoices in my God.” As we leave here
today let us renew our commitment to pray without ceasing, not allowing the distractions
of everyday life to deter us. We do have
a reason to pray…to give thanks for all that He has given us.
