Catholic Schools | Now More Than Ever

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

I wanted to share with you the link to a short video provided by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops on Catholic Schools.  The video is titled "Catholic Schools/Now More Than Ever.  Saint Patrick Church is blessed to have a parish grade school which has been part of our parish mission for over 100 years!

Please take a moment to watch this three minute video which lays out the benefits of Catholic Education.

Below is the direct link about applying to our school taken directly from our parish website.

Again parents I thank you for taking the time to consider the gift of Catholic Education for your child/children.  I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the members of our parish for their generosity and support to our ongoing commitment to Catholic Education.  Please keep the faculty, staff, and students of Saint Patrick School in your prayers.

Sincerely,

Fr. Keith M. Carroll
Pastor

Saint Patrick York...You Tube Channel

OK we have the blog and the Facebook page up and running.  We are moving forward!  I would like to formally announce the establishment of our St. Patrick York You Tube Channel
It is my hope that I will include the audio recording of my homilies each weekend (if you are having trouble sleeping perhaps they can help put you to sleep in the evening).  Also from time to time we may do some video recordings and upload them.  Again just another tool to assist us in the mission of evangelization.
Below is the the first audio recording of my homily this evening.

Catholic's Come Home...please take a moment to watch this video.

Brothers and Sisters,

I stumbled upon this beautiful video this afternoon, and I decided to share it with you.  It is important for us to take some time to look back at the story of our lives.  In the midst of the many joys there are times in which we all fail to act as we should.  We are human and we all make mistakes, but the good news is that the love and mercy of God is abundant.  Let's together take a few moments this weekend and reflect on the story of our lives.

How blessed we are to have the Sacrament of Reconciliation offered in our parish 6 days a week.  There is plenty of opportunity to experience God's love and mercy.  Please consider taking advantage of the opportunity provided and if none of these times do not work for you please don't hesitate to stop me.  If it's been awhile since you have been to the sacrament please don't let that fear from helping you experience this wonderful moment of grace, I will be more than happy to assist you!  All the time, God is good!!!

Father Keith M. Carroll
Pastor

Sunday October 5th...Living Rosary and Marian Procession

Brothers and sisters,

Mark your calendars!!!  On Sunday October 5th we will be having a living rosary with a Marian Procession. In preparation for that two of our parishioners have been working hard this summer to build a processional platform to be used to process the statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Many thanks to Jim Coll and Bob Hough for their dedicated hard work this summer to build this beautiful platform which will be used to honor our Blessed Mother in October and in the years ahead.  Thanks also goes out to Deacon Michael DeVivo who has been working diligently to organize the day!  Please keep an eye out in the bulletin for more information next month.

Here is the statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary resting on the beautiful processional platform built by Bob Hough and Jim Coll.

Tomorrow we are exactly ONE WEEK AWAY from our Parish Picnic!!!

On Sunday August 24th we will be having our annual parish picnic starting at Noon.  Following the 10:45am Mass please don’t wait; just come right over to Brenner Hall.  It promises to be a great afternoon of fellowship, fun, and good food.

Cost is $3.00 per person or $5.00 per family.

Families with last names beginning with A to M are asked to bring a salad and families with last names beginning with N to Z are asked to bring a desert.

Music during the day will be provided by our very own Ed Goodwillie.

Last but not least we can’t forget to mention the opportunity of a lifetime to dunk your pastor Father C. by sending him into the cold water of the dunk tank.
The cost is $2.00 for five balls or $20.00 just to come up and push the button.  Proceeds from Father Carroll’s time in the dunk tank will be put towards our safety and security project.

Father Carroll wants to see if you got a good enough arm to make him take a plunge!!!

Introducing "Labor of Love" a focus on our ongoing commitment to Saint Patrick Church

During the month of September, Father Keith M. Carroll will be introducing the “Labor of Love” ongoing commitment to Saint Patrick Church.  In the month of September we will be introducing this new theme as part of a renewed effort of our stewardship.  At each Mass in the month of September, Father Carroll in his homilies will be focused on the 3 T’s (time, talent, and treasure.).
Moving forward we will be looking at
                                                            RENEWING OUR HEART
                                                            RENEWING OUR FAITH
                                                            RENEWING OUR PARISH

This is a great spiritual opportunity for our parish!
In preparation for this on-going commitment, Deacon Michael DeVivo has been working on updating a listing of our parish groups.  It is our hope once this listing is updated to be able to publish it on the parish website.  Beginning in September 2014, we want to highlight a parish organization monthly in our parish bulletin.  Then in September 2015 it is our intention to have a ministry fair over in Brenner Hall giving each group an opportunity to introduce their group and share their mission with people in the parish.
As we prepare to enter the month of September in which we honor Labor Day a day in which we give thanks for the gift of work, may we open our hearts to the guidance of the Holy Spirit as we continue to work together laboring with love to build up and sustain our historic parish!  A mailing will be sent out right before Labor Day.

Praying for Peace!!!

At the request of Bishop Gainer this weekend following the 4:30pm. and the 10:45am Mass we will be praying the rosary for the intention of peace.  The rosary will be prayed before the 8am Mass as is customary, however as Pastor I ask those who pray the rosary to do so for the specific intention of peace throughout the whole world.  At the request of the diocese we will be adding a specific intention at each Mass for the end of violence and the destruction of life in Iraq.

Prayer for Peace -Sunday August 17
Bishop Richard Pates of Des Moines (Chairman of US Bishop's International & Justice Commitee), has called for collective prayer for peace in Iraq, using a prayer written by the Chaldean Patriarch of Babylon:
Patriarch Sako’s Prayer for Peace in Iraq:

Lord,
The plight of our country
is deep and the suffering of Christians
is severe and frightening.
Therefore, we ask you Lord
to spare our lives, and to grant us patience,
and courage to continue our witness of Christian values with trust and hope.
Lord, peace is the foundation of life;
Grant us the peace and stability that will enable us to live with each other without fear and anxiety, and with dignity and joy.
Glory be to you forever.

The above prayer was found on the National Catholic Register.

New Bulletin Column...Volunteer Profile!

Starting this weekend in the bulletin we will be highlighting once a month one of our many dedicated volunteers who give of their time in the parish!

For our very first volunteer profile we are Highlighting

Mr. Paul Kletzli!

Four years ago, Paul was a Catholic Freshman engineering student at York College from Butler, Pa.  He wanted to belong to a local Church and after a visit to Saint Patrick with his parents, he decided to join us. In an exchange for a ride to church, he willingly began to help as a teaching assistant with the 2nd grade Religious Education class.  Despite his many commitments as a mechanical engineering major, competing on the college track team and volunteering with a college interfaith organization, Mr. Paul, as he was known to the 2nd graders, came regularly and helped with daily classroom prep, grading homework, and (his favorite???) craft time.  He always brought a sense of humor, his strong witness to the Catholic Faith and a sense of loyalty and concern for the students.  When he was on an internship one semester; he found another Catholic college student to substitute for him.  Paul will be graduating this week with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and will begin his work in Lititz.  He will be back from time to time and will always be welcome here at Saint Patrick Church.  We have all benefited from this young man's giving of his time and sharing of his faith.  We thank him and ask God richly bless him.

For any college student attending one of our local colleges and your looking for a way to get involved in the faith, please know you are always welcome to consider volunteering in our Religious Education Program.  Our program runs from 9:15am - 10:30am on Sunday's beginning in September.  Please contact Sue Varholy in our Religious Education office if you are interested at 854-6653 or by email at svarholy@stpatrickyork.net.

***SAVE THE DATE*** "COME GROW WITH US"

The Pregnancy & Family Resource Center Annual Fundraising Dinner will be held on Thursday, September 25th at the Country Club of York.  This year's event features an auction and we need your help!  We are currently looking for auction items.  Suggested items may include donations of goods or services from local businesses.  Table sponsorships are available now and include dinner for eight and other "perks."  Please call the center for more information at 854-6285.  Come celebrate with us, as we continue to promote the sanctity of life.

Baptism Class Scheduled

A baptism class will be offered by Sr. Monica on Sunday August 24th at 3pm in the St. Theresa Room of the reception area of the Parish Office.  No preregistration is required.  Both parents are required to attend this class prior to the Baptism of their child.  Your child is always welcome in church, however, for the instruction itself, please schedule a babysitter so you may be free to concentrate.  If you have any questions, please contact Sr. Monica.  It is a very good idea to attend this class before the birth of your child.

Church Parking Lot...on Friday August 8th

On Friday August 8th our parking lot will be patched to repair those small sink holes that were developing in the lot alongside the Church (Beaver and College).  As a result after the 8:30am Mass that lot will be closed.  For those wishing to go to confession from noon – 1pm, I would ask that you either park in front of the Church, the lot between the rectory and the offices, or our lot along College and George.  The door closest to the bell tower will be open between noon – 1pm for those wishing to go to confession during that time.  Thank you for your assistance and understanding.

Parking Notice Issued for Saturday August 2nd 2014

Saturday August 2nd Parking Notice

Tomorrow York will be hosting the First Annual York Day over in Penn Park from Noon – 8pm.  Parishioners have mentioned to me recently the difficulty of finding a parking place in the lot when events are occurring at the park.  Having been made aware of the event this week I have closed our parking lot next to the Church (College/Beaver lot).  That lot will not be accessible until approximately 3:15pm right before the start of confession.  I would ask those planning to attend the Saturday Evening 4:30pm Mass, to please consider arriving early.  Please pass this information a long…especially to those who usually attend the Saturday Evening Mass.
